cantia vs Rate Your Music

Which is better, cantia or Rate Your Music?

It depends on how deep you want to go. Rate Your Music is the deepest community catalog in music: decades of ratings, lists, and discussion from obsessive catalogers. cantia is lighter and more personal: log what you listen to, keep your ratings private, follow friends instead of strangers. If you want the encyclopedia of recorded music, Rate Your Music is unmatched. If you want a diary of your own listening life, that is cantia.

What is Rate Your Music?

Rate Your Music is a long-running community website for cataloging, rating, and discussing music. Its members have built one of the deepest crowdsourced music databases anywhere, with decades of ratings, lists, and reviews.

What does cantia do differently?

• Private ratings. Your stars are yours alone. Only you see them, so nobody is watching.
• A diary, not an encyclopedia. Built around your listening habit, with streaks and a weekly recap of your week in music.
• Friends-first feed. Chronological, people you follow, no algorithmic ranking.
• No judgment. No public scores, no leaderboards, no like counts.

Which should you choose?

Want the deepest catalog and decades of community knowledge? Start with Rate Your Music. Want a personal diary of your own taste, kept honest because nobody is watching? That is cantia.
